FPL GW21 Best Captain: No Haaland, Salah or Son

Without Salah or Son and with Haaland not back yet, choosing the captain for GW21 isn’t easy.

Our best captains table presents the options in detail, but for now, let’s consider three players who are among the best choices.

Bukayo Saka

  • Fixture: Crystal Palace (H)
  • Anytime Return: 55%
  • Predicted Points: 6.0

It’s been frustrating for Saka owners recently as he has contributed only 2 G/A in the last 6 GWs.

However, it is essential to acknowledge his consistent performance throughout the season as he is the 4th highest-scoring midfielder.

Arsenal are set to play against Crystal Palace at the Emirates and despite their 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the FA Cup, Saka played a big part in their attacks.

Crystal Palace’s recent victory against Brentford was their first win since November.

Also, Palace have conceded 76 chances from their left side, which will delight prospective Saka captainers.

Saka is predicted to score 6.0 points according to our points predictor, making him the top choice, followed by Martinelli (5.4 points).

The Eagles are also the most likely team to concede in GW21, as per our clean sheet projections.

Cole Palmer

  • Fixture: Fulham (H)
  • Anytime Return: 50%
  • Predicted Points: 5.3

Penalty duty, 13 G/A, 4 goals from open play, and coming off a 18 point-haul, Palmer presents himself as a great option for the armband this GW.

He has scored 92 points in 1150 minutes, averaging 7.2 points per 90. For context, Salah is averaging 8.07 points per 90.

Furthermore, Fulham have been struggling in defense when away, conceding 23 goals (2nd highest in the league).

Palmer brings something others might lack – consistency. In his last five full 90-minute games in the Premier League, he’s contributed to 6 G/A.

Phil Foden

  • Fixture: Newcastle (a)
  • Anytime Return: 47%
  • Predicted Points: 5.0

Newcastle’s defense has been all over the place in the last few gameweeks.

They allowed 7.5xG against Liverpool last GW and managed only 1 clean sheet in their last 6 games.

Foden has performed brilliantly in the last 3 games, returning 4 G/A and 25 fantasy points.

As per Pep, he has been playing unbelievably in his CAM position which speaks volumes about his current form.

Alvarez is also a good option for captaincy. With Haaland absent, he is on penalties and has returned in three of the last four games.
