FPL GW24 Best Captain: Back to Haaland

In GW24, Haaland emerges as the most popular choice for captaincy, offering a safe and reliable option.

However, there’s potential for a differential captain this week, particularly considering Jota’s recent form and favorable fixture.

Your decision on captaincy also depends on your current rank; if you’re content with it and aim to maintain it, Haaland remains the preferred choice, given his TSB.

Anything other than these two and maybe Richarlison would be a differential pick.

Haaland is back and fit to go. He started the last game against Brentford, playing 85 minutes, and had 1 assist with 0.77 xGI.

Haaland’s ownership sits at only 64%, much lower than it was earlier in the season before he got injured.

If he’s in your squad, he’s the standout option to make an impact this GW.

Everton’s defense has been better than what most people might think. They have only conceded 30 goals in 23 games (4th best in the league alongside Villa).

Their record on the road isn’t bad either, conceding only 16 goals in 11 games (5th best in the league). However, City is City, averaging 2.7 goals per game at home this season.

This game might just be the moment when Haaland finds the back of the net for the first time this year.

Of course, for those of you without Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden are the best City alternatives.

In his last 4 appearances, Jota has played 273 minutes, returning 6 goals and assists.

He has started in the last 3 games and played the full 90 minutes in 2 of them.

Liverpool face Burnley at home and they have the best fixture this GW. Burnley has conceded the 2nd most goals in the league after Sheffield United (47).

Given the favorable fixture and Jota’s relatively low ownership, considering him for your captaincy makes sense if you don’t have Haaland.

However, if you own both players, your decision may depend on your current rank. Haaland boasts a higher effective ownership (EO) at 103.3%, while Jota’s EO sits at a mere 36.2%.

Richarlison has displayed remarkable consistency recently. He would have been a 50/50 transfer in for many in recent weeks and those who opted against him are regretting it now.

Since GW16, he has scored 9 goals, averaging an expected goal (xG) of 0.6 per game. He has also played the full 90 minutes in the last 3 games.

However, it’s worth considering Son’s return to the squad. So, while he remains a good captain choice in GW24, and potentially next week too, his appeal will diminish when Son fully returns.

While not the best option compared to Haaland and Jota, his current form and potential as a differential captaincy pick makes him a viable option.
