FPL GW25 Best Captain: Which Arsenal or Liverpool Player?

GW25 is another double gameweek that doesn’t include Man City. So, with only one fixture, Erling Haaland isn’t the best captain.

Instead, the captaincy this week is all about Arsenal and Liverpool players.

Liverpool face Crystal Palace (a) followed by Wolves (H) – whilst Arsenal face Leicester (a) and Everton (H).

Let’s discuss who is the best captain for DGW25.

Mohamed Salah

  • Fixtures: Crystal Palace (a) and Wolves (H)
  • Anytime goal: 36% and 48%
  • Anytime assist: 30% and 40%

Mo Salah (£12.6m) hasn’t been performing to his usual standard this season. However, make no mistake about it he is one of the top two captaincy options this week.

Salah has scored 8 goals and 6 assists this campaign and will be looking to extend his tally this gameweek.

He has produced an xG of 11.4, which is the 2nd highest amongst midfielders and has created 40 chances with an xA of 5.1.

The Egyptian has taken 70 shots overall (fourth most), including the third most on target (28).

Liverpool as a team have been underperforming statistically going forward. They have scored 38 goals (sixth highest) from an xG of 46.11 (second highest).

Salah does seem to be getting into his stride with a goal and an assist in his last two fixtures. This along with his impressive goal and assist in the Champions League.

Firstly, they travel to Selhurst Park who have conceded the third most home goals (17). Followed by Wolves who are also in the bottom 7 for goals conceded.

Salah is nailed to start both games in the DGW and with the bonus of being penalty taker, he is absolutely the best Liverpool pick this week.

It is no surprise to see him on top of our free FPL points predictor.

Darwin Nunez

  • Fixtures: Crystal Palace (a) and Wolves (H)
  • Anytime goal: 35% and 46%
  • Anytime assist: 28% and 36%

Darwin Nunez (£8.7m) is the alternative Liverpool asset to consider for captaincy this gameweek.

He has netted 6 times this season and provided 4 assists. At just 9% ownership he could be an excellent differential this week.

The Uruguayan has underperformed in comparison to his xG (10.8) this season. He is also ranked 2nd for xGI90 (1.21), just behind Haaland.

Nunez, has taken 68 shots (fifth most), the most per 90 (5.5), including the most on target too (2.3).

You would not be surprised to see him on the scoresheet this DGW after his fantastically well-taken goal against Newcastle and being on the scoresheet against Madrid.

Nunez isn’t as nailed as Salah so would be more of an xMins risk. Nunez, Jota, Firmino, and Gakpo will be fighting for 2 of these spaces alongside the Egyptian.

Bukayo Saka

  • Fixtures: Leicester (a) and Everton (H)
  • Anytime goal: 29% and 40%
  • Anytime assist: 35% and 45%
Salah vs Saka FPL GW1 to GW24
Salah vs Saka stats from GW1 to GW24

Saka (£8.4m) impressed once again with a goal in GW24. He has now improved to 9 goals and 9 assists this season.

Arsenal are still statistically the 2nd best attack in the league with (51) goals after a 4-2 victory at Villa Park.

Saka has scored 41 points in his last 6 games. Averaging (6.8) points per game, ranking (8th) best in the league.

The Englishman has been the most consistent Arsenal attacking asset as well as one of the most influential.

He has taken 55 shots (8th most), and the second most goal-creating actions (17), averaging 0.8 per 90.

With Leicester conceding 41 goals (19th) and Everton conceding 30 goals (12th), Saka should continue to return in DGW25.

Martin Odegaard

  • Fixtures: Leicester (a) and Everton (H)
  • Anytime goal: 26% and 36%
  • Anytime assist: 37% and 47%

Odegaard (£7.0m) is having his most successful season to date and has an impressive 8 goals and 7 assists so far.

He has an xG of 5.4 and an xA of 7.1 (fourth highest) and has created 51 chances this season.

Due to his fantastic goal and assist potential, interestingly enough he ranks 1st among all available Arsenal players for xGI (12.45).

Odegaard, with Saka, is nailed to start both fixtures in DGW25, and should also go close to 180 minutes which is vital when considering captaincy.

The Norweigan at just £7.0m is the third-highest-scoring midfielder in the game and registered an assist and 3 bonus in his last game against Villa.

The maestro is also on free kicks and some corners so will have an additional chance to secure returns.

Mo Salah along with Saka are without doubt the safest and best captain options for DGW25.

They are both nailed to start both fixtures and you would expect them to play 180 minutes across the games.

As per the predicted points model, both of them rank 1st and 2nd, respectively, to score the most points this DGW.
