FPL GW27 Best Captain: Brentford or Brighton?

The double gameweeks have been coming thick and fast and FPL GW27 is no different.

It sees 4 teams double: Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Southampton.

Brighton and Brentford are the stand-out picks this week; your GW27 captain should come from one of these sides.

Let’s discuss who the best captain is for DGW27.

Ivan Toney

  • Fixtures: Everton (a), Southampton (a)
  • Anytime goal: 34% and 37%

Brentford have a double gameweek against 2 struggling teams – Everton (a), and Southampton (a). Both of which sit in the relegation zone.

Everton have conceded 38 goals this season (15th) with an xGC of 43.2 (18th). The Saints have conceded 41 goals (17th) with an xGC of 35.8 (8th).

Brentford as a team have scored 40 goals (7th) with an xG of 41.4 and are clearly an excellent attacking team.

As a result, Toney (£7.7m) will be a very popular captain in DGW27, and for good reason.

The English striker has scored 15 goals and registered 3 assists with an xG of 16.5 (second among forwards).

This contributes to him ranking 3rd among all players this season for xGI (19.95).

Toney’s fixtures are both away games but this is nothing to worry about. He has averaged 6 points per match and has a 73% goal involvement away from home.

Moreover, the striker has penalties which further enhance his appeal for captaincy. He has scored all 22 penalties taken for the club proving penalties mean points for this man.

It’s worth noting that he also avoided a yellow card against Fulham. This means there is no chance of reaching 10 Yellow Cards during the DGW and missing one of the games due to suspension.

Finally, he’s top of our FPL predicted points tool.

Kaoru Mitoma:

  • Fixtures: Leeds (a), Crystal Palace (H)
  • Anytime goal: 25% and 32%

Mitoma (£5.5m) continued his impressive form with another goal and assist at the weekend.

The Japanese winger has now improved to 6 goals and contributed 4 assists in just 11 starts for Brighton.

He has an xG of 4.1 and an xA of 3.08, making him Brighton’s second highest midfielder for xGI since the World Cup restart.

He is the most transferred in player this week ahead of GW27 and will likely be a popular captain, too.

Brighton’s double consists of Leeds (a) followed by Crystal Palace (H). Both of these teams sit in the bottom 7 for xGC.

This bodes well with Brighton’s impressive goal-scoring record as they have scored 43 goals (5th) from an xG of 46.6 (fifth).

It’s also worth mentioning that Brighton have only played 23 matches which is the least in the league.

It was evident after the seagulls thumped 4 past the Hammers that they can be devastating and De Zerbi’s attacking style is likely to produce goals in this double.

Alexis Mac Allister

  • Fixtures: Leeds (a), Crystal Palace (H)
  • Anytime goal: 22% and 28%
Mitoma vs Mac Allister GW27
Mitoma vs Mac Allister ahead of GW27

Mac Allister (5.4m) will be on FPL managers’ radar not just due to him being on penalty duty but because of his positional switch to number 10.

The Argentine has 6 goals and 1 assist this season with an xG of 6.7 and an xA of 2.0.

This positional switch has certainly increased his numbers. In the 3 games he has played the 10 role he has lead the way for xG amongst Brighton players.

With a player of the match performance at the weekend, he is a differential worth considering.

After converting a penalty and with an assist he managed to pick up all 3 bonus points, earning him a massive 14 point haul.

The World Cup winner has averaged 5.2 points per match at the Amex and 3.2 points per match away from home.

The issue with captaining Brighton players is their goal contributions are equally shared out between the midfielders.

None of the options this week are the team’s main talisman and it could be any of the 2/3 that haul. It is really difficult to nail down the best one due to this.

With Toney being the 3rd highest scoring forward behind Kane and Toney it is hard to pick against him this week and he will be the most captained player.
