The in-form City attackers and the consistently reliable Mohamed Salah stand out as top captaincy picks for this week in FPL.
Let’s take a look at them in detail.
Erling Haaland
- Fixture: Notts Forest (H)
- Ownership: 92%
Haaland’s performance against West Ham might have been underwhelming in terms of FPL points.
He managed to score only 6 points despite having an impressive 2.59 xGI in the game.
His overall record this season speaks volumes, with 7 goals and 1 assist in 5 games, averaging a remarkable 9.0 points per match.
With Man City set to face Nottingham Forest at home, Haaland’s excellent track record at home makes him the best captain choice once again.
And if that wasn’t enough, the Norweigan scored a hattrick in the same fixture last season!
Julian Alvarez
- Fixture: Notts Forest (H)
- Ownership: 23%
Alvarez is one of the best transfers to target for your FPL teams, and he’s also emerging as a standout captaincy pick.
He has played the most minutes across all competitions for City this season and has been in excellent form.
In the last 3 games for City, he has contributed to 7 goals (3G, 4A).
His xGI per 90 minutes is relatively low at 0.6, but playing alongside Haaland has allowed him to consistently outperform his xGI.
While Haaland remains the top choice, Alvarez’s recent form makes him a great alternative option.
There is always a slight chance of rotation with players outside of Haaland but given Man City’s predicted lineup, he should be safe this week.
Mohammed Salah
- Fixture: West Ham (H)
- Ownership: 28%
Salah has consistently been one of the top performers in FPL and his reliability was once again put to display in the low-scoring GW5.
He has delivered returns in every single game this season, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists.
Salah’s underlying stats also make for good reading for potential captainers. He has the third-highest xGI (4.81) this season, only behind Haaland and Mbeumo.
Liverpool is set to face West Ham at home and although this isn’t an easy fixture we wouldn’t bet against Salah in his current form.
