Who is the best FPL Captain for GW26?

With another mini-double gameweek having flown past us, it’s time to turn our attention to yet another mammoth double gameweek! This time, with six sides having two games!

In addition, there are also plenty of discussions on chip usages. With home fixtures against Leeds and Norwich, the likes of Mohamed Salah and even Trent Alexander-Arnold are being touted as triple captain options.

Arsenal, Burnley, Leeds, Watford, and Wolves also have a double gameweek. However, there are only a selected few worthy for the armband.

To check out the latest, head to our Best FPL Captains page for full a list of viable captains.

Mohamed Salah

  • Norwich (H) & Leeds (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 65% & 56%

It’s no surprise, the highest FPL points scorer thus far is a clear standout option for Liverpool’s enticing double. Both of their fixtures are rated as a 1 in the FDR, meaning they are the easiest.

In the reverse fixtures, Salah cashed in fruitfully. In Gameweek one against Norwich, he supplied two assists and scored a goal at Carrow Road. Plus, he scored against Leeds in GW4. Let’s not forget too, the last time Leeds went to Anfield, he scored a hat-trick in a Liverpool 4-3 win.

Both Norwich and Leeds are ranked as the top two sides with the most goals conceded this campaign, with 50 and 46 respectively.

Diogo Jota’s injury has boosted Salah’s starting and minutes potential but with big games around the corner it’s far from certain he starts both games, much less playing all 180 minutes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

  • Norwich (H) & Leeds (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 14% & 13%
  • Chances of keeping a cleansheet: 60% & 48%

Another genuine contender is Liverpool’s right-back, who is also a points machine. Of the possible eight home games Salah and TAA have played together, Trent has outscored him on six occasions.

Behind Salah, he is second overall for PPG (points per game) with 7.10, out of all fantasy players to have scored 100 or more points this season.

Although Leeds do average a goal per game, it’s Norwich with the telling story, scoring just the 14 from their 24 league games. With this, it should correspond to a clean sheet on the cards for Trent.

Virgil Van Dijk

  • Norwich (H) & Leeds (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 14% & 13%
  • Chances of keeping a cleansheet: 60% & 48%

The Dutchmen center-half is currently on a very promising run in form. From his last four gameweeks, he’s provided three clean-sheets, a goal, and an assist. His record last time Norwich went to Anfield is of plenty encouragement too.

He was one of the four scorers, in the Reds’ 4-1 win over the Canaries on the opening night of the 2019/20 season.

His assurance of starts is also a boost to his prospects. Virgil has played the equal-most minutes of any Liverpool player (alongside Alisson), playing 1,980 minutes this campaign.

Many would consider Andrew Robertson an alternative. However, with a capable deputy in Konstantinos Tsimikas there’s a good chance he’ll find himself benched for one of the DGW26 matches.

Kieran Tierney

  • Brentford (H) & Wolves (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 5% & 4%
  • Chances of keeping a cleansheet: 52% & 48%

The Scot has been in sensational form recently under Mikel Arteta.

Tierney has amassed 64 points from his last eight appearances. This includes four attacking returns and six clean sheets. Overall, he averages more points per game than any other Arsenal player.

Arsenal’s GW1 reverse fixture against Bees points towards returns brewing for the Scotsmen. In that game, he created the most chances with six, which is more than any other player.
