Who is the best FPL Captain for GW27?

GW27 is yet another Fantasy Premier League double gameweek, albeit for just one team. Burnley is the only side to double in DGW27.

There are still plenty of double gameweeks to come and for when these could be and what fixtures remain unscheduled, check out our DGW schedule.

With Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all blanking the GW27 captaincy will be very interesting. After all, four of the top 10 highest effective ownership players were from these teams last time out.

Cristiano Ronaldo

  • Watford (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 51%

Not for the first time this season, but one of the standout single game week options is the 37-year old Ronaldo.

Despite not scoring in his latest league game and registering a blank, his stats are still encouraging, prior to his enticing fixture. He registered the highest xG (expected goals) from any player at Elland Road on Sunday, with 0.76.

His recent encounter with the Hornets shows promise too, having chalked an assist in their 4-1 defeat back in Gameweek 12.

Ronaldo’s teammate in Bruno is in scintillating form. His up rise in form continues with Ronaldo’s presence, having scored two goals and an assist in his last two league games.

The last time he visited Watford at Old Trafford in a Premier League game, he registered his first club goal alongside an assist, in Man United’s 3-0 win.

Harry Kane

  • Leeds United (A)
  • Chances of scoring: 50%

Another leading contender for the armband is Tottenham’s very own three-time golden boot winner. The England captain has improved his form in the last handful of gameweeks but it’s the form of Tottenham’s DGW27 opponents, Leeds, that’s the real selling point.

Leeds has the worst defence in the league, conceding 56 from their 26 league matches. Including Spurs, they have conceded 35 of their 56 goals from the top six sides. This has included 7 at City, 6 against Liverpool, and five on the opening day, at Old Trafford.

Consequently, Heung Min Son is another captain contender, too.

Armando Broja

  • Norwich City (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 41%

The Albanian has had a revelationary tenure as a Saint, and Friday night’s match at St Mary’s brings another opportunity to strengthen his stock further.

Broja has scored at home in four of the six matches he’s started, making his average points per game (PPG) of 5.1.

Additionally, Norwich has had one of the leakiest defences in the top-flight. The Canaries have conceded 53 goals thus far this season, which is the second-worst of any side.

It would go against common sense to captain a £5.4m player but in this case there is some justification.

Wout Weghorst

  • Crystal Palace (A) & Leicester City (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 28% & 29%

One of the favourites for captaincy who does have a double is Burnley’s own January signing from Wolfsburg.

Weghorst has made an instant impact under Dyche, and the Clarets’ last gameweek has shown it. He registered 14 points from Burnley’s double in 26.

This was headlined by his first game, having scored plus assisted, alongside retrieving maximum bonus points away at Brighton.

In terms of ownership, Weghorst will likely be the most popular captain for DGW27.

Ben Mee

  • Crystal Palace (A) & Leicester City (H)
  • Chances of keeping a cleansheet: 25% & 26%

Another Claret is their ever-present centre-half, in Mee. Ben has been heroic in both of Burnley’s doubles recently, having returned in every game.

This has consisted of four cleansheets from four, plus a goal against Spurs in their second of the Double gameweek 26 fixture, which occurred at Turf Moor.

And his opponents for their incoming Double 27 make for good reading from a Burnley perspective.

Crystal Palace has kept just the shutout in seven league matches. Meanwhile, the Foxes, are in the bottom four in the league, for most goals conceded. Only Newcastle, Watford, Norwich and Leeds have shipped more than Brendan Rodgers’ men.
