With the final international break for the season completed, it’s time to focus our attention on the all important FPL run in. With eight gameweeks to go, there’s still plenty of time to make up ground on your mini-league rivals.
Gameweek 31 sees two relegation candidates in Burnley and Everton, having a double gameweek. Depending on what chips are left remaining, fantasy managers are set to take different directions for their sides.
For the mean time, here are some armband options to consider for the incoming gameweek. Check out our updated best FPL captains page for a full list of options sorted by likelihood of scoring.
- Watford (H)
- Chances of scoring: 65%
There would be no better way to start armband conversation after an international break, than with the Egyptian man himself. It’s safe to say, his phenomenal record against the Hornets back up the case, which is why yet again, he’s the top candidate.
In his seven appearances against Watford, Salah has managed to be directly involved in 11 goals, scoring 9 and assisting two. Last time out, he finished with 13 points in Gameweek 8, consisting of a goal, assist and two bonus points.
In addition, he is top in the xGper90 charts (expected goals per 90 minutes), with a score of 0.85. This is the highest of anyone, who has scored more than 50 fantasy points this season.
Harry Kane / Son Heung-Min
- Newcastle (H)
- Chances of scoring: 54% / 43%
Next up are the Spurs dynamic attacking duo. Kane clinched his first returns for the season against Newcastle in GW8, with a goal and an assist. Furthermore, Son also scored on that day in their 3-1 away win back in October.
In addition, both of them had stirring performances in the gameweek just past. Son managed to score a brace against the Hammers, whilst Kane chimed in with a hat-trick of assists.
The Korean is ranked eighth overall and sixth overall respectively, in xG and xA (10.56 and 6.08).
On the other hand, Kane is the most in-form player in the game currently, with 15 more points than any other player in the last six gameweeks. The Englishmen has scored 7 and supplied four assists from the last seven gameweeks.
- Leicester City (H)
- Chances of scoring: 54%
Ronaldo is another to consider. Cristiano is coming off his best gameweek points tally to date, with his 17-points against Spurs in their 3-2 home win. This too, marked his fifth double-digit return for the season.
Alongside a favourable opponent in the Foxes, the 37-year old also has a favourable run in the short-term. He faces both Everton and Norwich in his next two, both rated as a 2 in the FDR.
- West Ham United (a) & Burnley (a)
- Chances of scoring: 29% & 34%
To round off the captaincy choices is Everton’s DCL. Although he hasn’t scored a goal since Gameweek 3, his 14-minute cameo last time out showed promise. He assisted Alex Iwobi’s winner in their 1-0 win over Newcastle.
And with Everton’s position in the table currently, the Blues have something to play for and need to score goals quickly. As mentioned, Everton are one of the two sides to have a double this gameweek, which means double the opportunity in getting attacking returns.
Burnley haven’t scored a goal in their last three league games. Plus, Calvert-Lewin has scored on his last two away trips to the London Stadium.
