Who is the best FPL Captain for GW33?

Fantasy Premier League GW33 is once again a double, providing yet another opportunity to climb up your mini-league rankings.

Seven teams have two matches in DGW33. They are Arsenal, Brighton, Burnley, Leicester City, Manchester United, Newcastle and Southampton.

For all of the latest DGW schedules, check out our double gameweek updates. If there were no doubles this week then Kane, Son or Salah would be the standouts. However, with the 7 aforementioned teams doubling the captaincy is wide open.

As usual you can more players to choose from in our best FPL captain picks table.

Bruno Fernandes / Cristiano Ronaldo

  • Norwich City (H) & Liverpool (A)
  • Chances of scoring: 53% / 70%

Man Utd’s two biggest stars are arguably the go-to captains this week. This is in spite of a daunting trip to Anfield. Fortunately, their first fixture is at home to bottom of the table Norwich.

Last time out in GW16, Ronaldo scored in their 1-0 away win at Carrow Road. He too, achieved maximum bonus points, alongside his goal. In addition, he scored in United’s last double, which was back in GW25, thanks to his goal at home to the Saints.

Similarly, Bruno has produced returns in both of United’s previous doubles this campaign (if history is anything to go by). He produced 23 points back in GW22, and clinched 12 points in GW25, thanks to his last-minute sealer against the Saints.

Furthermore, Norwich has conceded on average two goals per game this season (63 goals in 31 matches). The Canaries have kept just the six shutouts all season. Only Leeds and Watford have had less than them.

When choosing between the two, Fernandes is expected to return more points due to being a midfielder, more chance of assists, in addition to playing more minutes.

Harry Kane / Heung Min Son

  • Brighton (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 49% / 42%

The Spurs duo have been the most in-form players in the league, and are currently replicating the form from the start of last season. Their form is telling in the stats too.

In the last six gameweeks, both Kane and Son are the two players who have scored the most points. Kane has 65, whilst Son is the new leader with 69 points.

This has been helped by his six goals scored, eight bonus points, and an assist achieved all in the last three gameweeks. He too, scored a hat-trick away at Aston Villa last week, while Kane supplied three assists.

Kane scored in Spurs’ reverse fixture at Brighton, which finished 2-0 back in GW29.

Mohamed Salah

  • Manchester United (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 52%

In any given gameweek, we know as FPL managers, the Egyptian king is capable of anything.

Salah’s performance in their GW9 reverse fixture against Man Utd is something needing to be taken in strong consideration. He scored a hat-trick, plus an assist, in Liverpool’s 5-0 away win at Old Trafford.

Despite him having just two returns in the last five gameweeks, he still remains top in the xG + xA stats, with a metric of 30.3.

The next highest is Harry Kane, with 23.71. Salah still has 42 more fantasy points, than any other player in the game. Kane’s attacking partner in Son is the second-highest with 198.

Chris Wood

  • Leicester City (H) & Crystal Palace (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 51%

Another consideration for the armband is the former Burnley striker, who shifted to Newcastle in January.

He can be an important asset to fantasy managers, now having penalty duties in Callum Wilson’s absence. This is evident in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Wolves last gameweek, converting his goal from the penalty spot.

Both of Newcastle DGW opponents also have commitments in other cup competitions. Leicester City have European commitments a few days after their league game on Sunday. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have FA Cup duties a few days before their trip to St James Park.

This may mean fatigue and consequential rotation within both Leicester and Crystal Palace’s squads. As the gameweek deadline approaches you’ll be able to find predicted lineups for every Premier League team.

Wout Weghorst

  • West Ham United (A) & Southampton (H)
  • Chances of scoring: 48%

Despite the Dutch player not delivering in Burnley’s last gameweek, another double presents an opportunity to repay the faith of fantasy managers who have held him.

This gameweek marks the fifth double gameweek Burnley have had this season. In one of them, he has delivered, which was in GW27. This occurred shortly after his acquisition in the January transfer window.

Currently, he is ranked inside the top 10 for players with the highest ownership in the top 10k.
