FPL Gameweek 21 Preview – Tips, Fixtures, Stats – 20/21

That’s the midweek games complete and with just one day in between, Gameweek 21 will begin.

The Premier League midweek fixtures brought more changes at the top as Manchester City marched on whilst Manchester United stumbled.

As always, we look at each Premier League teams’ percentage chance of winning, the most likely goalscorers and which defenders to target for those clean sheets.

Everton vs Newcastle

  • Home Win: 63%
  • Draw: 22%
  • Away Win: 15%

Everton managed to stop Leicester City’s winning streak as they held them to a 1-1 draw midweek. Playmaker, James Rodriguez, looked back to his best following a recent injury. The Colombian picked up eight FPL points after his 20-yard strike found the back of the net.

Everton host Newcastle United in Gameweek 21 and the visitors continued their poor run with a 2-1 defeat to Leeds midweek. The Magpies are now eight games without a win and five straight defeats in the league.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves

  • Home Win: 33%

Crystal Palace lost 3-2 against West Ham in the last Gameweek. Wilf Zaha picked up his ninth goal of the season, but it proved not to be enough as The Eagles went a third game in a row without a win.

In Gameweek 21, Palace come up against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home. The visitors held Chelsea to a goalless draw midweek. This was Wolves’ first clean sheet since Gameweek 7. New signing, Willian Jose, made his first appearance and may be in for his first start this week.

Man City vs Sheffield United

  • Home Win: 87%

Manchester City were in top form as they swept aside West Brom in their 5-0 victory. £5.7m midfielder Ilkay Gundogan filled Kevin De Bruyne’s boots and found the net twice for City. With seven goals in eight games, Gundogan is the most in-form FPL player, averaging 8.8 points per week. The defence are also picking up huge points as The Citizens have conceded just two goals in the last 11 games.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City now turn their attention to Sheffield as they face The Blades at home this weekend. Sheffield United slayed the other Manchester giant in the last Gameweek and shocked the Premier League to win 2-1 at Old Trafford. £4.3m midfielder, Oliver Burke, scored his first Premier League goal and it earned his side their second win of the season.

West Brom vs Fulham

West Brom got a reality check against Manchester City midweek as they suffered a 5-0 defeat at home. The Baggies still have just one win under new manager, Sam Allardyce. He still has plenty to do to save their Premier League status.

Two sides in the relegation zone will battle it out in Gameweek 21 as West Brom take on Fulham. The Cottagers picked up a point in their 0-0 draw with Brighton last time round. Goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola hit double digits in FPL as his five saves, Clean Sheet and three bonus points took him up to 10 points.

Arsenal vs Man United

Arsenal’s sudden run of form continued as they made it six games unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Southampton. The Gunners’ most in form player is one of their youngest as 19-year-old Bukayo Saka recorded a goal and an assist in the victory. This made it four goals and three assists in the last six games for the £5.4m. A great differential averaging 7.8 points per game.

Manchester United taken on Arsenal in a classic Premier League rivalry match. As Arsenal continued their unbeaten run, United had theirs snatched away from them midweek. Bottom of the league, Sheffield United beat The Red Devils 2-1 at Old Trafford. This was their first Premier League defeat since Gameweek 7 when they were beaten by none other than Arsenal.

Southampton vs Aston Villa

  • Home Win: 35%

It’s back to back defeats for Southampton after losing at home to Arsenal. Despite going ahead in the third minute, it turned out to be an off day for The Saints as they lost 3-1. James Ward-Prowse picked up his fifth assist of the season for Southampton.

Southampton are up against Aston Villa in Gameweek 21. The Villains lost from a winning position in an entertaining 3-2 away game with Burnley midweek. One positive for Villa is Ollie Watkins picked up his second goal in as many weeks. They will hope this is the start of a goalscoring run, after his previous run of nine games without a goal.

Chelsea vs Burnley

  • Home Win: 72%

New Manager, Thomas Tuchel’s first match in charge ended in frustration as his side couldn’t create the chances to break the deadlock against Wolves. The game ended goalless and we may see many changes to the starting XI, as Tuchel puts his imprint on his new team.

In Gameweek 21, Chelsea face Burnley at home. Two goals in three minutes helped Burnley win 3-2 from a losing position against Aston Villa. Nick Pope made eight saves at one end and winger, Dwight McNeil, picked up a goal and an assist at the other.

Leicester vs Leeds

Leicester City were unable to continue their winning streak as they had to settle for a point against Everton. £6.4m Midfielder, Youri Tielemans, picked up his fifth goal of the season in the 1-1 draw. The Belgian is Leicester’s most in-form FPL player, averaging 8.0 points per game. A solid differential with just 2.5% ownership and he will be on penalty duty in the absence of Jamie Vardy.

Leeds United take on the top four challengers at The King Power Stadium this weekend after their 2-1 victory over Newcastle. Midfielder, Raphinha, picked up a goal and an assist in the match which means he is now averaging 6.2 FPL points per game. This is great form for a £5.4m asset.

West Ham vs Liverpool

It was a fourth Premier League win in a row for West Ham as they beat Crystal Palace 3-2 away. Aiming for a European spot may not be out of reach for The Hammers and Tomas Soucek seems to be the unlikely hero leading the charge. The £5.3m midfielder scored two of West Ham’s three goals and bagged 15 FPL points in the process.

In Gameweek 21, West Ham face a bigger challenge as they take on a revived looking Liverpool. The champions earned a great 3-1 win at Tottenham midweek. The front three looked dangerous and Sadio Mane registered a goal and two assists, which brought him 15 FPL points.

Brighton vs Tottenham

Brighton couldn’t manage back to back victories midweek as their match with Fulham ended goalless. This was however, back to back Clean Sheets for The Seagulls with thanks to the saves of keeper, Robert Sanchez. £4.4m Sanchez’s spot as their number 1 has been firmed up after Mat Ryan left in the January transfer window.

Tottenham hope to pick themselves back up after being swept aside by Liverpool in the last Gameweek. On top of the 3-1 defeat, Harry Kane had to be withdrawn at half time due to an apparent ankle injury. In terms of FPL, this could open the door for £6.9m Carlos Vinicius. The striker has an ownership of just 0.1%.
