Gameweek 22 Review
Gameweek 22 marked the first Double Gameweek of the season. Despite this the average points scored for the Gameweek were just 45. With Tottenham having a Double Gameweek it was unsurprising that Harry Kane was the most captained for the sixth time in the last 7 Gameweeks. The fact he failed to score in either game contributed to the lower than expected score. Heung Min Son was the most transferred in player. His 12 points provided more than enough justification for the FPL managers who did bring him in. The top performing player for Gameweek 22 came from Leicester rather than Tottenham or West Ham who had the Double Gameweeks. Riyad Mahrez scored 14 points after a goal and an assist against Huddersfield. He has now scored or assisted in 8 of his last 9 Gameweeks.
Tottenham Pick up 4 Points
Tottenham picked up 4 points after a victory at Swansea followed by a disappointing home draw to West Ham. In truth Spurs would have wanted the full 6 points out of these two games to add pressure to fourth placed Liverpool. Fernando Llorente, Dele Alli and Heung Min Son scored a goal each across the two fixtures. Most captained player Harry Kane failed to score in either but did start on the bench against Swansea due to an illness.
West Ham out of Relegation
West Ham also picked up 4 points in their Double Gameweek. They would have been far more pleased about this than Tottenham however. A late Andy Carroll winner, his second of the game, took the Hammers to victory over West Brom. Their 1-1 draw at Wembley came courtesy of a Pedro Obiang rocket. It means West Ham have only lost one game in their last 7 fixtures and puts them in 15th place.
Man Utd Bounce Back
Man Utd got a much needed victory after three consecutive draws, two of which were at home. They bounced back with a convincing 2-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. The goals came from Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. Anthony Martial was playing upfront in place of the injured of Romelu Lukaku. Jesse Lingard scored once again which means he has now scored 70 points in the last 9 Gameweeks. He is now Man Utd’s third most selected player in FPL behind David De Gea and Romelu Lukaku.
Arsenal Chelsea Share the Points
Arsenal and Chelsea matched each other blow for blow after an enthralling game at the Emirates. Arsenal took the lead via a rare, world class Jack Wilshere goal. This was then cancelled out by an Eden Hazard penalty before striker, disguised as a defender, Marcos Alonso scored what Chelsea thought was a late winner. Hector Bellerin then shocked Chelsea with a last second strike from outside the area. This result keeps the Champions League places open between both Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Liverpool and Tottenham.
