Gameweek 24 Review
Gameweek 24 was dead on the average points tally with 50. Harry Kane was once again the most picked captain. He has now been picked most for 8 out of the last 10 Gameweeks. He scored 8 points in Gameweek 24. Marko Arnautovic was the most transferred in player after his recent high scoring performances. He got one assist this week giving him 5 points. The top performing player for Gameweek 24 was Victor Moses. His goal, assist and clean sheet naturally gave him the three bonus points resulting in a total of 17 points. Sergio Aguero also got 17 points on the Gameweek after his hat-trick against Newcastle.
Swansea Upset Liverpool
The Premier League is certainly unpredictable. A week previous Liverpool beat the champions elect, Man City, 4-3 in a thrilling game. One week later and Liverpool lose 1-0 away to Swansea. The Swans put forth a battling performance and deserved something from the game. A first half Alfie Mawson header proved the difference although Roberto Firmino hit the post late on. The result does keep Swansea at the bottom of the table whilst Liverpool remain in 4th. The match marked only the second time since Gameweek 8 that Mohamed Salah had failed to score or provide an assist whilst playing.
Man City Back to Winning Ways
To the surprise of nobody Man City got straight back to winning ways following their loss to Liverpool. A home fixture to Newcastle was just the remedy. The final score of 3-1 probably didn’t reflect the dominance Man City had but Newcastle didn’t go to the Etihad and roll over. Sergio Aguero scored his second hat-trick of the season to gain 17 points on the Gameweek. He has now scored 16 Premier League goals, two behind Mohamed Salah and 5 behind Harry Kane. Man City are now 12 points clear at the top of the table and have attractive fixtures in the short term coming up.
Chelsea Comfortably Beat Brighton
Two early goals were enough to take Chelsea on route to a more than comfortable win against Brighton. Eden Hazard opened the scoring with Willian adding a second just after. Brighton did have their chances at 2-0 but a mixture of excellent goalkeeping and luck kept Chelsea’s clean sheet intact. Eden Hazard added a third before Victor Moses added a late fourth. Three Chelsea players left the Falmer Stadium with double digit FPL returns.
Arsenal Put Crystal Palace Away Early
Similar to Chelsea, Arsenal put their fixture to bed early as well. An incredible first 25 minutes from the Gunners resulted in Crystal Palace being 4-0 down. Amazingly Nacho Monreal scored and provided two assists all in the first 13 minutes. He was taken off at the end of the first half but this was clearly precautionary as he has since played in the Carabao Cup. Despite this he picked up 16 points on the Gameweek. Alex Iwobi, Laurent Koscielny and Alexandre Lacazette scored the other three goals. Arsenal were unable to keep the clean sheet as Luka Milivojevic scored late on. Arsenal sit 6th in the table, 5 points off Liverpool and the Champions League places.
