Gameweek 3 Review
Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League is already in the books. We discuss the best team and player performances from Gameweek 3. The average points in Gameweek 3 was 43. This is similar to Gameweek 2’s 44 average points but once again marks a notable decrease from Gameweek 1’s 58. Romelu Lukaku was the most captained for the third Gameweek running. FPL managers will rue this decision however as he failed to score and missed a penalty. Here are our Gameweek 3 review takeaways.

Man City Leave It Late
Bournemouth proved to be tough opposition for Man City who had to give from a goal behind on their way to a last second winner. The 14.2% picked Charlie Daniels opened the scoring with a stunner. Gabriel Jesus levelled the scoring shortly after. Bournemouth managed to hold Man City out until the last kick of the game when Raheem Sterling got a winner before being sent off for a second yellow. There were 10 yellow cards and one red in the game. Notably Sergio Aguero didn’t start; Pep Guardiola likes to keep FPL managers on their toes when it comes to Man City’s starting 11. The reported arrival of Alexis Sanchez will only add to the unpredictability of the Man City team. However, it would be hard to imagine that Alexis Sanchez wouldn’t be given a regular starting spot.
Liverpool Smash Arsenal
Liverpool somewhat shockingly thrashed Arsenal 4 nil. Their superstar front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino combined for an impressive 29 points. It looks as if they won’t be slowing down either and as a result it may now be imperative to have one of them in your team. On the other side of the coin Arsenal look to be in turmoil. Since the Liverpool game Arsenal have sold Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool and Alexis Sanchez is all but certain to leave also. This undoubtedly will diminish their Premier League prospects but will increase playing time for lesser priced Arsenal FPL players. This alongside Arsenal’s good upcoming fixtures means there may be opportunity to take differential risks on Arsenal players.
Man Utd 100%
Man Utd are the only team to have won all three of their Premier League games. They continued their 100% record with a 2 nil victory over Leicester. Antonio Valencia led the way for FPL points after getting a clean sheet and the three bonus points. Despite the victory it was a bad afternoon for Romelu Lukaku owners. He missed a penalty and didn’t contribute to either goal resulting in zero points for the match. Their next 6 fixtures including Liverpool at home and Chelsea away but overall look conducive for more FPL points.
Wembley Troubles for Tottenham?
The 2-1 loss to Chelsea may vindicate those who suggested Tottenham would struggle at Wembley this season. In reality however, judging by Tottenham’s overall performance, this could be a one off. Tottenham looked dangerous for the duration of the game having more than double the possession and shots of Chelsea. Some FPL managers will be questioning whether Harry Kane is worth his £12.5m price tag. We would say hold on to FPL’s most expensive player as he has good fixtures coming up and has been inches away from a very different FPL points score. He has hit the post in each of the first two games. Both £9.5m Tottenham midfielders Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli have looked threatening in both games and have 19 and 10 FPL points respectively.
Chelsea Back in Business
After a shocking first day defeat to Burnley, Chelsea have sinced bounced with two victories. The latest came against a solid Everton team. Cesc Fabregas and Alvaro Morata took the bulk of the FPL points with 11 and 12 respectively. The latter has flown under the radar since his high profile move from Real Madrid. He is currently the second highest scoring forward in FPL, two points behind Roberto Firmino.
Newcastle Off the Mark
After two defeats Newcastle registered their first win with a three nil victory against West Ham. The Hammers have lost all three of their games and currently sit bottom of the table. Newcastle however will be buoyed by an impressive, comprehensive victory. Ciaran Clark‘s goal and clean sheet resulted in a 15 point haul for him. This was the highest points total across all teams in Gameweek 3.
