Firstly we’ll analysis each team’s performance from last season. From there we’ll look at each team’s new signings, which players are most likely to play, their set piece takers and most importantly which players present the best FPL value.

Surprisingly Man City scored more away goals than home goals. Their home games were also tighter affairs than the away games. It will be interesting to see if Man City can continue their good Premier League away form. At home, we would expect them to score more than 2 goals a game.

Man City Players to Pick for FPL

Man City players will always be popular picks. This is reflected in their traditionally high prices.

Man City Defence

Man City have completely overhauled their defence. So far they have made three notable signings, Kyle Walker (£6.5m), Benjamin Mendy (£6.5m) and Danilo (£5.5m). The first will be expected to go straight into the starting 11. Benjamin Mendy would also be a certain starter but a thigh injury is set to delay the start of his season. Guardiola has been using wing backs during pre-season so Kyle Walker could offer a further attacking threat. If this system is implemented it will result in three centre backs being deployed. Vincent Kompany (£6.0m), John Stones (£5.5m) and Nicolas Otamendi (£5.5m) will almost certainly be these three centre backs. If two centre backs are used Nicolas Otamendi will be the favourite to drop to the bench.

Man City Midfielders

Competition in the Man City midfield is as great as ever. Man City’s most expensive midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) would seem a certain starter. He scored 199 points including an astonishing 21 assists. New signing Bernardo Silva (£8.0m) could oust David Silva (£8.0m) from the starting 11 assuming Guardiola does move forward with his 532 formation. Fernandinho (£5.0m) will be the leading candidate to anchor the midfield ahead of Yaya Toure (£6.5m). With the introduction of wing backs this could spell bad news for Raheem Sterling’s (£8.0m) starting prospects. With the absence of Benjamin MendyLeroy Sane (£8.5m) might be required to play the left full back role. He looks great value heading into the new season based on his performances in the second half of last season. Man City playing two upfront may quell his attacking threat however.

Man City Forwards

The 532 formation also means two forwards will be deployed. This would seem sensible given the quality of both Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) and Gabriel Jesus (£10.5m). If Sergio Aguero can continue to score at the rate he has previous seasons then his £11.5m price tag is a steal. The question remains however how many minutes will Gabriel Jesus take off him. It is unclear who would be Guardiola’s preferred forward if they do play one up front. There is also the option for Gabriel Jesus to play out wide.
