Firstly we’ll analysis each team’s performance from last season. From there we’ll look at each team’s new signings, which players are most likely to play, their set piece takers and most importantly which players present the best FPL value.

FPL Newcastle Preview – Team Performance

There was little difference in Newcastle’s home and away Championship form. Naturally Newcastle scored more goals at home but only got two more points. It will be interesting to see if Newcastle can carry over this good away form to the Premier League. For the sake of Fantasy Premier League it would be safe to assume they won’t and that Newcastle players will perform better at home.

Newcastle Players to Pick for FPL

Newcastle players will feature more than expected in a lot of FPL manager’s teams. This is due to their good opening fixtures.

Newcastle Defence

DeAndre Yedlin will miss the first couple of games of the season. Therefore Javier Manquillo (£4.5m) will be favourite to start the season at right back. Jamaal Lascelles has been nursing an injury throughout pre-season and current indications are there’s about a 50% chance he’ll be available against Tottenham. Ciaran Clark (£4.5m) is the most likely starter in the centre of defence with new signing Florian Lejeune (£4.5m) set to be Jamaal Lascelles replacement if he can’t shake off his injury. Of these players Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles provide the best chance of goals.

Newcastle Midfielders

Matt Ritchie at £6.0m is unsurprisingly Newcastle’s most picked midfielder with a 3.9% selection percentage. He is on both penalties and free kicks so will naturally always garner interest. He scored 12 goals in 42 league appearances for Newcastle last season. Newcastle’s most likely starter in the centre of midfield is the £5.5m priced Jonjo Shelvey. He however only scored 5 goals in the same number of appearances as Matt RitchieChristian Atsu (£5.0m) will likely start on the left where he scored 5 goals in 32 league appearances. There is a feeling there may be more to come from Christian Atsu so he worth watching as a potential differential option. Another player to keep an eye on is Jacob Murphy who transferred to Newcastle from Norwich over the summer. He is currently only picked by 0.4% of FPL managers.

Newcastle Forwards

Newcastle boast three good forward options. At the forefront of these is Dwight Gayle (£6.5m) who scored 23 Championship goals last season. More impressive than that is each of these goals came every 93 minutes. He is less prolific in the Premier League having scored 15 goals in 62 appearances in previous campaigns. Currently 7.5% of FPL managers have put faith in him to bring his Championship form to the Premier League. Newcastle’s other two forward options are Aleksandar Mitrovic (£5.0m) and Ayoze Perez (£5.5m). It is the latter who is more likely to start having scored 9 goals from 36 league appearances primarily in the second striker role.
