FPL Watford Preview – 2017/18

As the new Fantasy Premier League season approaches we will be previewing all 20 Premier League teams – here is our FPL Watford preview. Firstly we’ll analysis each team’s performance from last season. From there we’ll look at each team’s new signings, which players are most likely to play, their set piece takers and most importantly which players present the best FPL value.

Surviving relegation by one place won’t encourage FPL managers to get Watford players. They do have a winning record at home but conceded the second most goals away from home.

Watford Players to Pick for FPL

Based on last season Watford players won’t be popular picks. Only three of their players broke the 100 point mark. There are some players that could be used as cheap differential options though. One important thing to note is Watford haven’t conceded a goal in their last four pre-season games.

Watford Defence

Jose Holebas would seem the most certain starter in the Watford back line. He is priced at £5.0m and does have the added bonus of being on free kicks. Daryl Janmaat (£5.0m) has been used more than new signing Kiko Femenia (£4.5m) in pre-season and this could be the indication that the former will start at right back. In the centre of defence two of Sebastian Prodl (£4.5m), Miguel Britos (£4.5m) and Younes Kaboul (£4.5m) will be favoured to start. We have believe it will Younes Kaboul that has to make do on the bench – this is only marginal however.

Watford Midfielders

It isn’t surprising Etienne Capoue is the most picked Watford player at 8.1%. The £5.5m midfielder scored more points than any other Watford player with 131. He is as certain to start as anyone and could feature in an advanced midfield position if Marco Silva utilises the 4231 formation. The other central midfield positions will be contested by new signing Nathaniel Chalobah (£4.5m), Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.0m) and Tom Cleverley (£5.0m). Given their defence prowess we think it’ll be the first two that get the nod. All three of these players are ones to avoid for Fantasy Premier League. Nordin Ambrabat (£5.0m) will be favourite to start on the right but once again offers little FPL value. Watford’s highest priced midfielder Roberto Pereyra (£6.0m) can play centrally or wide. With Watford’s strength through the middle we think he will start on the left.

Watford Forwards

Watford’s main forward Troy Deeney is unlikely to start the season as he has a groin injury. This will come as a blow to many FPL managers as the £6.5m priced forward is a certain starter and has an excellent penalty record. In his place will almost certainly be Stefano Okaka (£5.5m). He scored four goals in 959 match minutes last season in the Premier League. Mauro Zarate (£5.5m) is also another forward option but he is sidelined with a knee injury with no current return date.
