We are just past the halfway point in the FPL season and league tables across the globe are starting to take shape with Erling Haaland being a mainstay in most sides.
Whether you are looking to increase your lead at the top of your friend league or trying to make up the gap to avoid finishing rock bottom, double gameweeks are vital.
The biggest call of your season could rest upon when you use your Triple Captain and who you take that gamble on.
21 goals in 16 games resulting in 144 FPL points is ridiculous and this is why FPL managers are targeting him for the Triple Captain chip.
Haaland in DGW20 – Man Utd (a) and Tottenham (H)
Man City are chasing the league leaders Arsenal and have a massive week ahead.
Facing two other top 6 teams means it is a risky time to use your Triple Captain on a City player.
Man Utd have won their last 3 league games and will be full of confidence heading into this fixture.
Haaland did have a field day in the reverse fixture however as he netted a hat-trick and two assists.
This is his biggest points haul in a gameweek to date as he raked in a massive 23 points.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are in poor form with just one win in their last four in the league.
Spurs have conceded 25 goals which is more than any of the other top 6 sides.
Haaland has an xG of more than 1 goal per 90 minutes. Consequently, Haaland is odds on to score against Man Utd and Tottenham in each game.
The question is should you use your Triple Captain on Haaland in DGW20?
Unfortunately, there is no clear answer here.
The arguments for doing so are Haaland is currently fit (expected to start both matches), in form, and despite tough teams on paper will average two goals across both fixtures.
His predicted points will almost certainly be the highest for GW20.
Another factor to think about is if you leave it until later, and are focused on Haaland, there will be Champions League minutes to contend with.
Also, the big double gameweeks yet to come may suit a Wildcard, Free Hit, or Bench Boost chip, instead.
On the flip side, reasons for not using it include potential better opportunities later in the season (as discussed below), and Man Utd/Tottenham are certainly capable of stifling City.
With that said, if it helps, we will be triple captaining him in DGW20.
Haaland in DGW23 – Aston Villa (H) and Arsenal (a)
Games with Aston Villa and title rivals Arsenal make up another double gameweek for Man City.
So the question is, should you use the Triple Captain chip in DGW23 instead?
While Aston Villa and Arsenal look like more favourable fixtures on paper, this may not be the case.
Arsenal are top of the league and will be an extremely tough game while Villa have a new defensive genius as their manager in Unai Emery.
Haaland has also faced injury issues in past seasons and thus it presents a risk to wait for future fixtures.
With Tottenham having injury issues and in such poor form, they seem to be more for the taking.
Liverpool or Man Utd DGW Later in Season
Should you not choose to Triple Captain Haaland, there are other potential options.
Liverpool and Man Utd have fixtures to be rescheduled against Wolves (H) and Leeds (H) respectively.
Rescheduled games will most likely be played on GW29, GW34 or GW37 presumably.
However, Man Utd vs Leeds could be moved to GW22. This would mean Utd play Crystal Palace (H) and Leeds (H). This would be a very appealing triple captain opportunity.
Meanwhile in GW29, Man Utd face Newcastle (a) while Liverpool play Man City (a).
Both sides have home games in GW34 (Liverpool vs Tottenham) and (Man Utd vs Aston Villa) and favourable fixtures in GW37 (Liverpool vs Brentford) and (West Ham vs Man Utd). Therefore, these could definitely be potential Triple Captain opportunities.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Marcus Rashford would likely be the best options.
