UCL Fantasy: Best Players for MD3

The international break is (finally) over which means Champions League fantasy is back.

Many managers have already played either their Wildcard or Limitless Wildcard. Therefore, this article will focus on key players that should be considered for MD3 transfers.

Notably, MD4 is the reverse of MD3, so the top players for this week will somewhat remain the same for the next matchday.

Andriy Lupin

  • Price: €4.0m
  • Picked by: 1%
  • Fixture: Shakhtar (H)

After Courtois picked up an injury, Lupin is set to start against Shakhtar.

When you can get a starting goalkeeper for €4.0m, especially for Real Madrid, it’s an excellent opportunity.

The current Champions League holders have a 53% chance of a clean sheet against Shakhtar.

Real Madrid have yet to keep a clean sheet in La Liga this season but they have yet to concede a goal in the Champions League.

Alphonso Davies

  • Price: €5.5m
  • Picked by: 24%
  • Fixture: Viktoria Plzen (H)

After four games without a win in the Bundesliga, Bayern finally managed a convincing victory again at the weekend.

This is good timing for UCL Fantasy managers as their home fixture against Viktoria Plzen is definitely one to target.

Bayern Munich are strong favourites against the Czech champions and are amongst the teams with the highest probability of keeping a clean sheet on MD3 (65%).

While Bayern Munich struggled to score goals during the past weeks, their defence has been solid enough with an average of 0.75 goals against per Bundesliga game.

‘Phonzie’ is a great pick as he will have space to roam forward against Plzen. He registers 0.18 xGI per 90 and is nailed in Bayern’s back four.

Joao Cancelo

  • Price: €6.6m
  • Picked by: 49%
  • Fixture: Copenhagen (H)

It’s not a surprise that Cancelo is owned by half of all Champions League fantasy managers after having picked up three assists in the first two matchdays.

Like Bayern, Man City have a 65% chance of keeping a clean sheet in MD3.

Walker looked like he injured himself against Man United on the weekend which should increase Cancelo’s chances of starting.

However, given the relative ease of the fixture in Copenhagen at home, Cancelo isn’t a nailed starter.

There is also a heightened risk as he plays on the Wednesday, meaning you’d need to commit to playing him before getting team news.

With his ability to recover balls additionally to clean sheet and assist potential, he is a great option for the upcoming match days.

Jamal Musiala

  • Price: €7.0m
  • Picked by: 5%
  • Fixture: Plzen (H)

Bayern against Viktoria Plzen is a great fixture from an attacking perspective as well.

While Bayern’s attack has been struggling lately, Musiala has been the only exception. He has had a great start to the season and is still enhancing his performance game per game.

He is not only the cheapest Bayern attacker but also the one with the most goals (7) and assists (5). This has resulted in an amazing 1.62 GI per 90 minutes played.

Considering the fact that Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich will miss the next match due to illness, he will most likely start the next game.

Musiala is a great pick for MD4 too. Furthermore, Bayern play in the early kick-off so fantasy managers can make sure ahead of time that he starts. Should he do so, he has a 42% chance of scoring.

Federico Valverde

  • Price: €6.5m
  • Picked by: 12%
  • Fixture: Shakhtar (H)

With Benzema’s absence, Real Madrid needed to distribute their goals around the team, and Valverde did not disappoint.

After scoring in three consecutive games, he should be firmly on the radar of fantasy managers trying to gain an edge when Real Madrid face Shakhtar at home on MD3.

He comes at a fair price of €6.5m. Given the cost of premium assets, Valverde will likely shoot up in ownership ahead of the deadline.

Karim Benzema

  • Price: €11.0m
  • Picked by: 14%
  • Fixture: Shakhtar (H)

After his injury in MD1, Benzema is set to return just in time for MD3. His ownership is not going to stay this low for long so fantasy managers have the opportunity to gain rank by buying him early.

In the 6 matches he played this season, he picked up four goals and one assist.

He will be motivated to get going in this year’s champions league campaign to not fall behind his competitors for the Champions League top scorer.

Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski already have three goals each to their name.

With a 65% chance of scoring, he is a great differential Wednesday captaincy pick for managers who have doubts about Haaland’s minutes.

Dusan Vlahovic

  • Price: €9.0m
  • Picked by: 3%
  • Fixture: Maccabi Haifa (H)

Juventus generally are not in their best shape. However, their MD3 and MD4 fixtures against M.Haifa could be a turning point. Juventus won 3-0 against Bologna on the weekend as they try to regain form.

Vlahovic is Juventus’ main attacking threat with 5 goals and 1 assist so far.

With a fair price of €9.0m, he is cheaper than most premium attackers and could be a differential with 3% ownership and a 56% chance of scoring.

The third forward slot should be reserved for Haaland who shouldn’t need selling to you!
