FPL Gameweek 16 Preview

Gameweek 16 Preview

We will be previewing each Fantasy Premier League Gameweek throughout the season. Team fixtures, captain choices and which players to transfer in/out will all be discussed. Here is our FPL Gameweek 16 preview.

Gameweek 16 Fixtures

Gameweek 16 doesn’t have any real stand out banker fixtures for any team. The three easiest on paper appear to be Chelsea away to West Ham, Tottenham at home to Stoke and Liverpool hosting Everton. The latter fixture would have been considered a lot easier two weeks ago but since Everton have accrued 6 points out of 6. Liverpool will go into the match firm favorites but at least Everton now have some form going into the game. Nevertheless FPL managers may still be relying on Liverpool players more than others to bring them the goals. Tottenham have dropped lots of points recently and will view a home fixture against Stoke as a match to get back on track. Should they drop points again the Champions League places, let alone a Premier League title, will be slipping from their grasp. West Ham have picked up just one point in their last 5 fixtures and now face the daunting challenge of playing Chelsea. They are coming off a respectable 2-1 defeat to Man City, but still, it is hard to see anything other than a Chelsea victory here. The biggest game of Gameweek 16, and the season so far, is the Manchester derby. Man City currently sit 8 points clear at the top of the table meaning Man Utd almost require a victory at Old Trafford. How the game will play in terms of FPL points is difficult to predict. Perhaps the most sensible logic is that Jose Mourinho will try and make the game as tight as possible, therefore favoring defenders. Despite losing to Man Utd in Gameweek 15, Arsenal will go into their game away to Southampton full of confidence. Previous to this they had won three games in a row. They have also won their last two fixtures at St Mary’s. Other teams with good fixtures on paper include Crystal Palace at home to Bournemouth, Huddersfield hosting Brighton, Newcastle vs Leicester and Swansea taking on West Brom.

Gameweek 16 Captain Choice

We are going with Eden Hazard for our captain for the second Gameweek running.

Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard continues to be in red hot form. As a result even an away fixture isn’t stopping him from being our captain. He has averaged more than 9 points a Gameweek over the last 6. West Ham are certainly capable of being the recipients of a Chelsea smashing so Eden Hazard ticks a lot of boxes for the captaincy.

Alvaro Morata

Once again Chelsea’s record signing is a close second to Eden Hazard for the Gameweek 16 captaincy. If Chelsea are to put West Ham to the sword then it will be hard to imagine Alvaro Morata not being on the score sheet.

Harry Kane

Tottenham’s main man only has two goals in his last 6 league appearances for Tottenham. This isn’t a terrible statistic but will be disappointing for someone of Harry Kane’s standards and price tag! Despite this it isn’t too difficult to see him scoring more than one in a home fixture against Stoke. The form may be against Harry Kane and Tottenham currently but nobody will be ruling out Harry Kane goal(s) this weekend.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah is Fantasy Premier League’s top scorer for a reason. He also sits top of the Premier League goal scoring charts, two ahead of Harry Kane. These stats alone provide more than enough justification to captain him at home to Everton. An equally viable alternative would be Philippe Coutinho also. He is coming off a season high 18 point haul. If given the choice between the two we would go with Mohamed Salah however.

Players In and Players Out

Here are the top 5 players you should be transferring in and out of your team prior to the Gameweek 16 deadline. If you expect a player to go down after a given Gameweek it is wise to transfer him out early to avoid the likely price decrease. Likewise it is sensible to transfer in a player early that you believe will go up in price before the deadline. These top 5 are based on potential price changes, fixtures and general form. We will also try and offer players from different teams.

Players In

  • Eden Hazard
  • Alvaro Morata
  • Harry Kane
  • Mohamed Salah
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Players Out

  • Paul Pogba
  • Callum Wilson
  • Cedric Soares
  • David Silva
  • Robbie Brady
