FPL Gameweek 18 Preview

Gameweek 18 Preview

We will be previewing each Fantasy Premier League Gameweek throughout the season. Team fixtures, captain choices and which players to transfer in/out will all be discussed. Here is our FPL Gameweek 18 preview.

Gameweek 18 Fixtures

Gameweek 18 marks the third Gameweek in the space of a week! Undoubtedly the biggest fixture is Man City hosting Tottenham. Tottenham will need at least a draw here for their own very unlikely title aspirations whilst three points for Man City will only further cement their grasp on the title. In terms of FPL it is hard to predict how the game will play out. The highlighted fixture for potential FPL points is Chelsea vs Southampton. Chelsea need nothing less than victory to avoid losing ground in the ultra competitive top 6. On the other hand Southampton have conceded in their last 8 games. Similar can be said of Newcastle who have conceded in their last 7. This stat doesn’t bode well for a team travelling to play an Arsenal team who have been excellent at home. This is another fixture which FPL managers will be looking at to pick up points. These are the two best home fixtures for teams but Man Utd and Liverpool also face fixtures they’ll expect to win in albeit away from home. Man Utd are playing West Brom at a time, from their perspective, that couldn’t be better. West Brom have picked up just a single point in their last 9 games. As a result it is fair for FPL managers to bookmark this as what should be an away banker. On paper Liverpool face a fixture of similar difficulty. In reality though Bournemouth have been putting in resolute performances throughout the season so this might not be as easy as some are suspecting. Other teams with attractive fixtures include Everton at home to Swansea, Leicester hosting Crystal Palace and Watford vs Huddersfield.

Gameweek 17 Fixtures

Gameweek 18 Captain Choice

We are going with Eden Hazard for our Gameweek 18 captain choice.

Eden Hazard

Chelsea’s star man has failed to get a goal or assist in his last two games. However, in his last game away to Huddersfield he was very unlucky not to do so. He is continuously the best player on the pitch and a home fixture against a Southampton side who have been conceding for fun means he is our Gameweek 18 captain.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez hasn’t replicated his incredible 264 points from last season and this should come as no surprise. This season the effort and the general performances are there but they are not being converted into FPL points. With that being said, his past track record and what can be considered a relatively comfortable home fixture means he has to be a contender for captain.

Mohamed Salah

As the leading FPL points scorer by quite some distance, Mohamed Salah cannot be ignored as a potential captain choice. His current standards are so high it seems an ultra disappointment if he doesn’t at least score. He has double digit FPL point returns in four of his last 7 Gameweeks. Whilst Bournemouth should provide Liverpool with a stern test it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see Mohamed Salah prove to be a successful Gameweek 18 captain choice.

Romelu Lukaku

It is no secret that Romelu Lukaku has received his fair share of criticism over recent performances. He dampened that criticism slightly after scoring the winner in Man Utd’s last game against Bournemouth. This could potentially be a turning point for Man Utd’s number 9 after he started the season with so many goals. A fixture against a more than struggling West Brom might just be the perfect opportunity to put together a match winning performance for the second Gameweek running.

Players In and Players Out

Here are the top 5 players you should be transferring in and out of your team prior to the Gameweek 18 deadline. If you expect a player to go down after a given Gameweek it is wise to transfer him out early to avoid the likely price decrease. Likewise it is sensible to transfer in a player early that you believe will go up in price before the deadline. These top 5 are based on potential price changes, fixtures and general form. We will also try and offer players from different teams.

Players In

  • Alexandre Lacazette
  • Eden Hazard
  • Richarlison de Andrade
  • Phil Jones
  • Willian Borges Da Silva

Players Out

  • Aaron Ramsey
  • Stephen Ward
  • Charlie Daniels
  • Robert Elliot
  • Ryan Bertrand
