The last gameweek was eventful, with red cards, multiple late comebacks, and some of the title contenders continuing to drop points.
We’ll be hoping for more of the same action in GW17. Here’s everything FPL managers need to know to stand the best chance of moving up the ranks this gameweek.
GW17 Transfers
Aleksander Isak
[player_card name=”Isak”]
Isak is one of the most in-form FPL options at the moment. He’s got 5 goal involvements in his last 3 games.
While some good fixtures are out the way, FPL managers have not missed the boat with Isak. Newcastle play Ipswich this weekend which is an excellent fixture.
With how talismanic Isak is to his side though, and in this current form, he’s a good option to play against any team.
He’s putting up strong underlying data too at 0.72 expected goal involvements per 90 minutes. This indicates there are more returns to come from Isak.
Gabriel
[player_card name=”Gabriel”]
Despite some fitness concerns, Gabriel rewarded managers that stuck with him, picking up a clean sheet and full bonus points in GW16.
As lacklustre as they’ve been in attack, Arsenal are the team to target for defenders. They’ve got the highest average chance of a clean sheet over the next 4 gameweeks.
Gabriel is the best of the Gunners’ defensive assets to go for. He’s got twice as many attacking returns as any other Arsenal defender this season.
Alex Iwobi
[player_card name=”Iwobi”]
As you can see in our FPL fixture difficulty planner, Fulham’s upcoming fixtures look great, so it’s a good time to buy their assets.
No option has more attacking returns for Marco Silva’s side than Iwobi. He has 8 for the season and more FPL points than the likes of Son, Diaz and Bowen this season.
He’s incredibly affordable, costing £5.7m, and at just 4.7% ownership, if he continues to play well, he’ll give your rank a great boost.
Amad Diallo
[player_card name=”Amad”]
With 13 points against Man City in GW16, Amad has emerged as an excellent budget option for your FPL midfield.
His minutes are beginning to look secure after starting 5 of the last 6 league games.
Among FPL midfielders and forwards, Amad is 5th for points-per-million. He offers great value at just £5.2m.
Antonee Robinson
[player_card name=”Robinson”]
The Fulham man picked up 2 assists in GW16 against Liverpool. As of now, no defender has more attacking contributions than Robinson’s 6 this campaign.
Apart from Chelsea in GW18, Fulham’s fixture run looks enticing up until GW23.
They’ve got the 2nd highest chance of a clean sheet at 40% this weekend when they host Southampton.
GW18 Best Captain
Mohamed Salah
[player_card name=”Salah”]
Tottenham away won’t be an easy fixture, but you simply cannot go wrong with captaining Salah at the moment.
The man has 10 double-digit hauls from 16 gameweeks this season. It’s incredible form and Salah has shown no signs of slowing down.
Cole Palmer
[player_card name=”Palmer”]
FPL managers should not let last weekend’s blank put them off captaining Palmer this week
His 0.90 xGI per 90 is only marginally behind Salah who’s on 0.94.
Palmer arguably has the better fixture and also has an excellent record against his GW17 opponents, Everton, of 4 goals in 3 games.
Erling Haaland
[player_card name=”Haaland”]
Haaland can no longer be considered a prime target for captaincy. However, if you’re chasing rank, then handing him the armband could payoff.
Villa have been a weaker defence this season in terms of goals conceded than both Palmer and Salah’s GW17 opponents.
Haaland is still top among players for expected goal involvements. He’s a risky pick but in a week where there isn’t a standout captaincy pick, he could be worth going for.
