World Cup Fantasy: Best Players for MD2

The 2022 World Cup has kicked off in Qatar, and so has the fantasy game.

There have been some high-scoring games in the first round, including big performances from Kylian Mbappe and Bukayo Saka.

Managers get two free transfers ahead of MD2 before an overpowered Wildcard to use (during MD2) and for MD3.

Here are some of the best players to transfer in for World Cup fantasy MD2.

Memphis Depay

  • Price: $8.5m
  • Picked by: 4%
  • Fixtures: Ecuador, Qatar

Despite not starting the Netherlands’ opener, Depay is a great pick for MD2.

Vincent Janssen started ahead of him due to Depay recovering from an injury, but when he came on he affected the game a lot more.

The Barcelona forward had two goal-creating actions in his 30-minute cameo and could continue that form in the Dutch’s next two matches.

They face Ecuador and Qatar and should be able to beat them both.

He’s a good option for $8.5m, which is a lot less than other premiums.

Bukayo Saka

  • Price: $8m
  • Picked by: 10%
  • Fixtures: USA, Wales

Saka had a tremendous World Cup debut scoring twice and earning 15 points (the most so far).

In England’s 6-2 win over Iran he had the joint most shots (3), all of which were on target too.

He’s a player in form, too. Before the tournament began Saka had 5 goals in all competitions for Arsenal, as well as 6 assists.

Additionally, his 13 goal-creating actions were the 5th most in Europe’s top 5 leagues.

Against the USA and Wales, he could contribute again in what could be a breakout tournament for the youngster.

He’s a very reasonable $8m and is listed as a midfielder, too.

Jude Bellingham

  • Price: $7.5m
  • Picked by: 12%
  • Fixtures: USA, Wales

Bellingham was another England player to impress in their opening game, scoring the first of the match.

He was heavily involved in the rest of the match too, providing two goal-creating actions and 11 passes into the final third (second most in the tournament).

The Dortmund midfielder was constantly arriving late into the box, always free for a pull-back, and could score a few that way during the tournament.

Furthermore, he’s just $7.5m and may be one of the best young players at the tournament.

Both Bellingham and Saka are certain starters for the game against USA, according to our World Cup predicted starting lineups.

Olivier Giroud

  • Price: $7.5m
  • Picked by: 2%
  • Fixtures: Denmark, Tunisia

Giroud made history for the French as his brace against Australia equalled the scoring record for his country (51 – level with Thierry Henry).

Against the Socceroos he had 5 shots, recording the highest xG of the tournament so far (1.7).

His teammate Mbappe ($11.5m) looked great too, scoring 9 points with a goal and an assist.

However, Giroud is cheaper at $7.5m and is playing centrally, so it may be that Giroud is going to be playing between the width of the 6 yard box, and potentially more goals.

Denzel Dumfries

  • Price: $6m
  • Picked by: 25%
  • Fixtures: Ecuador, Qatar

Dumfries is an extremely attacking right wing-back, almost playing as a traditional winger.

He creates good chances, accumulating an xAG of 3.3 for Inter Milan (7th highest in Serie A).

For the national team, he has had a good year too, scoring three goals and getting three assists in 2022.

He’s up against Ecuador next, who before the tournament scored only once in their previous 5 matches, and Qatar, who don’t look like they can match the Dutch’s quality.

Alex Sandro

  • Price: $5m
  • Picked by: 1%
  • Fixtures: Switzerland, Cameroon

Brazil have a very solid defence and are one of the favourites to go far in this World Cup.

They kept a clean sheet against Serbia and only conceded 5 times in qualifying for the tournament.

In MD2 Brazil take on Switzerland, and since they’re the better team on paper they have a 48% chance of a clean sheet.

He’s only $5m too, making him the cheapest defender in Brazil’s first starting 11 on Thursday.
