Finding the Best Value Midfielders
Here we will discuss the best value midfielders that are under £7.0m (that’s £6.5m or under) in FPL this year. We all need two or three cheap midfielders. Choosing which ones can often determine the success of an entire season. Take those who chose Mahrez over Chamberlain last season; that is a big swing in points. Let’s discuss 5 of the best value midfielders but that would still provide a differential pick.
Andros Townsend – £6.5m
After his short stay at Newcastle, Crystal Palace’s top summer signing is all but guaranteed a place in the starting 11. With the exit of Bolasie apparently imminent this only cements his place. Townsend is a very dangerous player who is capable of scoring points at any given moment. Unfortunately he lacks the consistency to perhaps fulfil his potential. For someone of Townsend’s quality his goal record is pretty average. If he can play close to the best of his ability week in week out then he’s capable of breaking 10 goals this season. A risk but perhaps a calculated one.
Gerard Deulofeu – £6.5m
Similar to Townsend, Deulofeu lacks the consistency to match his potential. There has been excitement among Everton fans since the day Deulofeu signed but he has only performed sporadically. He scored four goals last season but that included a lot of appearances from the bench. It is his preseason form that has opened the eye of many FPL managers. Furthermore it appears he is number one in the pecking order for set pieces. If he can nail a down a starting place every week at £6.5m he may be a fruitful option.
Jesse Lingard – £6.0m
Since breaking into the Man Utd first time last season, Lingard has impressed. On top of high point scoring performances he retains possession very well and works hard. This is why Van Gaal, and thus far Mourinho, have often started him. He has scored two big Wembley goals within the past three months and with this momentum he may carry on doing so in the Premier League. Of course there is ferocious competition at Man Utd but given his form he is probably favourite to start this weekend. A few early big performances from him and he may become a must have in all fantasy teams.
Nathan Redmond – £6.0m
A summer signing from Norwich, Redmond has caught the attention of many fantasy managers. He looks to have nailed down a starting place in the Southampton side and at 22 years old is only going to improve. His stats thus far in his career are a little shy on the goals front but playing with better quality of players and occupying the left of the attacking midfield may prove the catalyst to push on in this department.
Bojan Krkic – £6.0m
Bojan was listed as a striker last season. This factor alone might be enough to attract some fantasy managers. He scored 7 in 27 league appearances last season which is more than enough goals to warrant the £6.0m price tag from midfield. Despite these stats he hasn’t fulfilled the potential superstar status he was given at Barcelona but this can only be a good thing as it means he has the scope to get better. He is likely to start and assume the number 10 position. In addition to this there is potential for him to be used as a striker.
